Drove my defender 90 all today today and all was fine, now just went to pick up a friend there was a squeal and the power steering has gone making it (rather obviously) bloody hard to steer!
Does that mean the pump has gone or the fluid needs topping up? or something else?
Please help!!!

Look under yer bus furst and see if any pipes are burst then look in yer reservoir to see if ye've any fluid left. failin' that yer pump is fecked!

On closer inspection there is fluid dripping from he base of the pump, does that mean the pump has packed up?

If it's leaking from the back where the pipe goes onto a banjo thingy ye might be ok. There's a wee 'o' ring between the banjo and the pump, it might be that what's wrong.

Cant see any problems with the pipe or connectors, it appears that the leak it coming from somewhere just above the drop arm as it is leaking over the drop arm and onto the lockwasher which is where its dripping to the floor from. Is there a washer just above the drop arm that could be broken? Apologies for my lack of knowledge!

Sounds like the steering box is leaking, the bottom seal is a common problem.

Top ya power steering fluid up and turn it from lock to lock a coulpe of time then toop it up again.

Get a new seal kit fitted when you can (not a big job)
