cheers v8kenny but is that how it fires or how its set up cuz the (4 banks of 2) coil pack iv got shows on the cage 1 6 5 8 7 4 3 2
yes thats redundant spark, 1 and 6 will have spark but only 1 will be at tdc for firing cycle( i think) dont worry about firing order just yet as you need to make sure 1 goes to plug 1 etc

Sorry Andrew - perhaps if I read the question properly I could answer it
The coil pack is indeed two banks of 4 - looking from the front they are both numbered 1 to 4
Your HT leads need to be connected to the coil pack like this
Drivers side
1 - lead 3
2- lead 5
3 - lead 8
4 - lead 2
passenger side
1- lead 6
2 - lead 4
3- lead 7
4- lead 1
Always remember V8 fire in opposed pairs and "the rule of nine " comes into play ie the cylinders that fire together add up to nine
for example both coil one above add up to 9, coil two add up to nine etc
Does that help ? (or even make sense ?)

if there is a problem with key or immob then there will be no spark at all so i dont think its that!
sorry people should of explained better . i have 4 coil packs (very early p38 ) on each coilpack i have 2 leads , going by the cage they are set in (its marked as such),working from the front of the car and starting on the odd bank (my right )it tells me lead 1 goes to plug 1 into coil marked position 1, second lead in goes to plug 6 even bank , next lead is 5 then 8 and so on , i can see where your coming from with the 9,. 1 then 8 should follow then 4 & 5 but going by the way they are set in the cage no chance !

Sorry i don't think this works, firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, so half way through the list is number 6, so 1 and 6 would be at tdc together, therefore 1 and 6, 8 and 5, 4 and 7 and 3 and 2 would at tdc together, the only time i have heard of the 9 rule was for doing the tappets on a four cylinder engine.

is lead 8 an 2 the wrong way round ?
