So, do you off-road a lot, mostly on-road with a bit of offroading, never offroad, carry lots of stuff, tow caravans, trailers etc, carry many passengers, roofrack, what other equipment is fitted to the disco, like winches etc?

In my opinion, there is absolutely no need to lift your Disco. Bigger tyres will give you more clearance under the diffs, which is where you need it.
If your springs and shocks are tired, replace them with new standard rated ones - heavy duty are only needed if you regularly load it to the max and / or do lots of heavy towing. In normal use, HD springs give a harsh ride and bounce off road, losing you traction. Bearmach springs are good, as are Pro-Comp shocks. Terra Firma are the best that you can get. Avoid Britpart.
M&M 4x4 for Bearmach, Frogs Island for Terra Firma, but compare their prices with e-bay sellers.

if they look like original springs i would change them for new ones original springs 16 year old springs will be shot and saggy if you do green laning alot and the occasional pay and play dont in spending a fortune on lift kits unless you believe you really need it please read the lz article about problems caused by lifting a land rover suspension Jai

Trew has it spot on slightly bigger tyres i personally like 750 r16 or mabe 700s x16 im not a big fan of wide tyres anything bigger than 235 Jai
How do you (and Trew) know? Does the OP want to off-road or green-lane? He hasn't actually said ... you're just assuming. Mind, having said that, if he does want to go offroad or laning then your answers are good ..
wow what a power pack reply. well i am in Bulgaria and i am a builder ( check my web site SOLO Property - real estates in Bulgaria, holiday apartments, new development on the Black sea coast. you may like what i am building i will do you a good deal if any one intrested) I use the disco for on site and on road for towing and picking bits of building materialse up. i have a very nice range rover but i dont like to get it dirty so thats why i have the old disco. new and spare parts over here very expencive. so when i am back in uk i always bring lots of things with me for what i might need. the problem i have is the disco when driving feels at the back like its moving a bit from side to side and some one said its my springs so i thought i would replace them. i am back in uk in one weeks time to pick up my range rover as its there getting lots of jobs done as i can not trust them in bulgaria to do them they just are not good enough.
I'd then say HD springs, at least on the back but probably all-round, new shocks, but it might also be worth replacing all the rear end bushes ... ARB's, A-Frame and have a good look at the wheel bearings at the same time.

Nowt at all, but since fitting HD springs to mine the towing 'feel' with a caravan or heavy trailer and loaded boot has been transformed. It wasn't bad anyway, mind, but the difference really is well worth it for very little extra cost.

To be honest If its for offroading he need to learn some more about suspension and driving before getting expensive gear. If he was at that stage where he needs the lift kit he would know what to get IMO. Jai

It could be just the dampers (aka shocks) that need replacing. Check the rear body mounts as well and the bushes on the link assembly on the rear axles...

Personally I would give that acolade to Old Man Emu.
Springs are one the areas on an LR where you definately get what you pay for
