mine takes about ten mins. you could always get rid of the viscouse fan and fit an electric one like kenlowe or similar ? that will get the engine to warm up quicker.

i take a 1kw leccy fan on an extention lead and sit it between the front seats for a couple of mins. Nice and toasty, oh and defrosted.

You should be getting warm air out of the vent in 3- 5 mins max then it depends on how thick the frost is to how quick it clears. After 5mins the heat should be getting hotter so is your heat in the car ok, may be you have a thermostat problem, therefore switching on your heated screen will not resolve the lack of heat problem although it's the solution to removing the ice.

Anything is possible with enough time and money thrown at it.
Apart from the cost of a screen replacement - you need a relay, switch and the wiring....

Yes...Someone was thinking about doing it on another Forum until he was quoted over £700 from the RAC for the glass and thats with a discount, something like £1200 from LR.
If you have one its handy but their no instant (Fords are very quick) and if you havent I don't think its a great loss, how often would you use it a year.
Do what I do on my other car put a plastic sheet over the glass but I'm sure you do that already.
I reckon the best way would be to fit all the wiring and then get it upgraded as and when you need a noo screen - just tell em yu need a heated screen - yu can always say that it should have one, but last time it was replaced it wasnt done .

you read my mind. I've found a reference to a heated screen offered as an option with the disco 1's - I wonder if the basic wiring is there. I'm gonna have to do some searching to find out. If I can get the tail wires to stick out somewhere near the screen when it's up for replacement I can sort the rest of the leccy stuff out.

i've got one of those kenlowe pre heater jobbies that runs orf the mains - heats the coolant so when you jump in the engine is already toasty, no shivering for the first few miles as it turns on the interior fan as well - can be set to run off a timer or turned on via remote control
and if it's really cold the webasto goes on

Warm water from your tap (NOT HOT FROM YOUR KETTLE) and pour it over the screen. It warms the screen up so it cannot re-freeze, and it also un-freezes your wiper blades from the screen.
Everyone over in Boston (USA) lifts their wiper blades off the screens when they park up and its snowing.

that pouring water trick is only any good if the temp is just around zero - if it's still sub zero it'll freeze very quickly so rather than frost on the screen you'll have a thin layer of ice
an old woollen blanket spread flat to the screen works wonders even at -20 and below

If it's pre-wired and a lot are then you should have a plug like this on each side of the screen.
