im just about to buy my first defender, its a g reg 90, its not in best condition its bin left in a garden for few
months, ive checked chassis and engine and they seem fine (engine slight rattle). the only thing is its had two
replacement doors which are a different colour, so i want to coach paint it, problem is do i have to remove the paint or can i paint over it? sorry if this a repeat question
cheers

Rub the paint down to provide a good key, slap a couple of coats of primer/undercoat on and then paint to desired colour.

After seeing this WIki a few months back personally I'd roller it, at least thats what I'd like to do when the weather gets nicer. :)

Although you can just give the panels a rub down, if you want a longer lasting higher quality finish I would go back to bare metal, etch prime (roller or spray etch primer often on ebay) then give a couple of top coats (flating back between them) in a colour of your choice.

However if your thinking of coach painting, maybe the quality of finish isnt that crucial to you, so you could just give the doors a quick couple of top coats with the roller if you wanted.
