there must have been something wrong with that TD engine, a good TD will perform better than a badly looked after 200 any day of the week - and the difference between a 12J and 19J engined vehicle is very noticable

as with any engine if you don't look after them dont expect much from them - this is very applicable to the TD
Nope. The td had been rebuilt less than 10k ago. It also benefitted from new filters etc regularly and was generally in good nick. The only other difference was the n/a was hauling slightly smaller tyres, but not much smaller. I found the td slow to pick up revs in comparison the n/a seemed a lot more willing. I've owned several 200tdi's and even a fairly rough one is better than a td.

has anybody had a 2.5 na and a 2.5td to bits before. they are different. the td has four jets in the bottom of the bores quirting oil at the bottom of the pistons to keep them cool the na does not

I know of an NA with the extra jets too. The block was changed slightly, and then any TD and NA made after this revision would have had the extra oil jets. They strengthened it slightly too.

Its like 300tdi bits, its the same engine but there are some newer parts that superceeded older ones.

I don't believe you, can i see a picture please?

Seriously, can i see a picture?

You can't really make it out.

But the pipes link up to the intercooler in front of the rad.

I cba taking the grill off to show you...

It looks like a tidy job. If it ain't broke don't fix it, I say. If it does break then it seems a 200tdi would be a good option.

It would help. At the moment it cools the air entering the engine via forcing air through it (so better when going fast), it would do the same in an NA, but the NA has to draw the air in itself, this engine already suffers from pumping losses at high speed so it could be more detrimental.

In an ideal world it would probabaly let the fuel burn a little better. I was going to put one on my NA just for the hell of it, but I reckoned the NA had enough trouble getting air as it was.

I think the advantage would be minimal even if the air could come through well and with the increased air intake resistance I would say it may reduce efficiency.

it would probably not make a difference. The intercooler cools the air as it is heated by the turbo (raise in pressure = raise in temperature)

In the NA it isn't pressurised, it is already at the ambient air temperature, so very little if any difference.

You will probably find it reduces the power as the extra 'suck' required to pull the air through.

And i am impressed with your intercooler Greeny!

You will get better performance if you fit a cool air duct to the intake to be honest.

What dis/advantages would an intercooled non-turbo engine have?

Think about it Green Bob: The air going into the air intake and flowing through the inside of the intercooler will be at the same temperature as the air flowing over the outside of the intercooler so the intercooler should have no cooling effect.

that may well be true when the vehicle is stationary, when it's moving wind chill will cool the intercooler to slightly below ambient, as the intercooler is simply a heat exchanger the air within the intercooler will also be slightly cooler than ambient :)

this disagreeing with you is becoming a habit

i'm not saying that you'd see any performance increase thou

O.K. I can see your point Sean:mad:

What's the score now? Oh yeah something like: Fenby 10; Sean 1:mooning:

i think we are about evens, but seeing as your the ref and i havnt started playing for keeps yet i dont think i'm doing so badly

you still didnt reply to my "so do you think penatration is all about ampage" question yet btw
