In the middle of replacing a section of the power steering pipework so obviously need to top up/replace the oil

I have bought Millers CHF but from research, a CHF 202 oil is preferred - would the Millers do or do I need to get a CHF 202 rated one?

The correct Land Rover fluid is green which is a good quick check. Don’t recall it being expensive.

Thanks mate - its just getting there will be the problem to get a bottle - will try tomorrow and see if parts is open early

Compared to the cost of the other parts (pump and rack) I did not think it was worth trying to scrimp. But any oil is better than no oil so perhaps use the stuff you have to flush it out?

Assuming a F2 from your signature, you need to use the correct spec fluid - CHF202. You can easily cause damage to the power steering pump otherwise.

Edit; And be sure to bleed it correctly if required - before starting it. They are very prone to damage caused by air in the system!

Freddie, thanks - think I will just call into JLR on the way to work tomorrow if they are open and grab some oil

Not sure if this is the recommended way to do it. But I would jack up the front of the car and turn the steering lock to lock a few times without the engine running. once you are happy that the level is not going down, then that should be the air out of the system

That is the only way to do it in my opinion, wheels only have to be off the ground by a few inches, so easy to do, also if i were the OP i would be changing the power steering reservoir at the same time.

The reservoir has a filter in it that can get clogged over time.
It’s good practice to change it at the same time, for peace of mind - they are not expensive.

Because there is a filter built into the reservoir which can not get changed, and they need changing every couple of years or so, i doubt yours as ever been changed or as it? and it's best way to bleed the system.
