If you are using Win 10, it does not support the Prolific chip.

I checked it's windows 11

I have an old panasonic toughbook with win 7 just for the P38..

Check the block connectors behind the plastic trim in the passenger footwell.

it's an old car , the old software an laptops just seem to work better.

I presume that laptop would have a dedicated coms port ?

It's a long time since laptops came with a serial coms connection. USB to serial works fine even on my tablet computer, just the problem of sorting out the driver.

I've ordered a new serial adaptor A dedicated FTDI with the driver on a disk , so if this doesn't work then Ive got issues with the car.
