While laning this year we also did the famous/infamous "Bastard" lane, properly known as Horseshoe lane.

It's another one of those lanes you see people driving badly on YouTube and making a complete hash of it. You can see it on the ground too, with some very odd routes taken on some obstacles, thay can only serve to make it difficult and damaging with no benefits.

We opted to not drive down the steepest part of the waterfall, as there really is no need too. We weren't there to break anything or prove anything. And if you want a real challenge off road, you go and compete in a trials event (RTV/CCV). :)

Quite a fun and interesting lane though. Although in my honest opinion it would be much more entertaining to drive it the other way round doing the obstacles up hill. Maybe one day.....

If I plan a route I never know if it’s good 1 way. Do look at contours when planning.
Make a few notes about sections & if there is more about being better the other way you can reverse the map direction.
Just need to remember road junctions & roundabouts directions don’t change using OS maps

@300bhp/ton did see you had a few more on your utube channel. Glad you had a nice day or 2

Thanks. Sadly Horseshoe Lane has a Voluntary Restraint on it to drive it West to East. Think I'll have to plan to return at a quiet time and try it the other way round though. Bit of a lack of passing places if you meet anyone, so can see sense of the one way direction. That said, we were laning for 5 days and met very few other laners.

Did a few lanes over the days, although we weren't rushing. Sarn Helen, Spicy Lane, Golf Course, Happy Valley and a few others.

Well now I’m confused. You are aware of the downhill VR but you didn’t drive the waterfall.

Since there is no other way out I assume you turned round. Therefore doing most of the lane against the VR. That’s totally against the spirit of it, particularly when you criticise others.

Yes it far more fun driving up it, but we’ve respected the VR for a few years now.

If you aren’t sure if you or your vehicles are capable of a lane, you should walk it first.

I'm confused too.... I said we didn't drive the steepest bit, not that we didn't drive it at all. 😉

Also quite evident in the video, at this timestamp, hope it clarifies for you:
