I have rattle from the front of the car. It is mainly coming from the passenger side and Halle s when I’m going over a rough road. I have changed the anti roll bar drop links multiple times and have just renewed the anti roll bar bushes and it doesn’t seem to have completely solved the issue.
Can anyone help point me in the direction for my next search?

This video on you tube is exactly what the rattle sounds like and also the reason why I went down the drop links route. When I went through my 3rd pair of drop links I decided that the anti roll bar bushes must be worn and causing excessive ware and making the drop links fail. I have just done the bushes and checked the drop links and yet the noise is better but not gone.

I was thinking of looking at the top suspension minting but wasn’t 100% sure how to get to it on the passengers side as loads in the way. I’ll have a look thank you.

I had a rattle from a faulty shock absorber a few years ago. The cheapest way to confirm it was to buy a used strut complete from a breaker and swap it out.

Just so you know many Defenders weren't even fitted with anti roll bars.
You learn something g new every day. I was very nervous about trying this but I obviously shouldn’t be. Thank you. If I renew the drop links again it will be the 4th pair I’ve replaced and I haven’t owned this Freelander more than 17ish months.

That's very poor, are they cheap ones?
I fitted a Febi Bilstein one on my Focus once, it failed in 3 days.
Check lower ball joint if you haven't already.

I didn’t know that doing that was a thing. I will be trying this as a test.
The anti-roll bar prevents axle articulation which is good on the road but bad off road. I wouldn't leave them off for long but it should be OK for a test.
BTW you probably already know this having replaced so many but when changing drop links always jack up both front wheels at the same time. If only one wheel is jacked up you'll be fighting the springiness of the anti-iroll bar. It might even be easier to do it with all four wheels on the ground.

They were about £20 a set. I try to stay away from the £9.99 sets and I won’t buy the £50-£60 sets as it seems these items are failing so often. That’s what let me to chase other possible issues and as they are attached to the anti roll bar and I have no idea if the bushings had ever been changed I thought that excess movement in worn bushes may be destroying them.

i have always had both fronts on axle stands. Mainly so I can move from one to the other quickly.

I also had both front wheels off the ground when I changed the anti roll bar bushes yesterday. I guy on YouTube had his car on a ramp but it made more sense to me to have the pressure off the bar.

An update for anyone interested. I took the links off and went for a drive. The noise completely vanished so now I’m in for but g two new links.
Any recommendations? I dont know whether to go with Lemforder, Meyle or Delphi.
