I have seen flanged drive shafts for later models but not seen anything for the 300TDI. I have a salisbury rear diff and looking to replace the drive shafts both front and rear. These seem a nice upgrade and reduce transmission shock/noise. However, not sure if they are even available for the earlier models of defender???

Mine is a 1996 300Tdi and mine has them on. According to the LR parts catalogue, they were used from VIN - LA930456

Here's one on Paddocks part number FTC3270. The near side is FTC3271

Im confused by this - the 300disco had them, but that didnt have a salisbury.

...and, more to the point, im pretty certain (almost entirely certain) that the 300 disco and 300 defender salisbury half shafts are different lengths (which is why you cant just use a load of disco parts in a salisbury disc conversion)

I mean, ive been wrong before, and will be wrong again, but i dont think the paddocks part will fit a 300 salisbury defender axle.

Ah, sorry Julian. I was just saying some of the Defender 300Tdi's have flanged rear drive shafts, not that they will fit a salisbury diff. I've no experience of them, but from what I've read they are not interchangeable parts.

On mine, i replaced the shafts and flanges together (rear), using sealable flanges, and, at the same time, removed the oil seal behind the stub axle, so as the gear oil can run the whole way up to the flange.

Ill take it apart at some point in the future and check for ware, but, from what ive read of others doing this, the oil does a better job of reducing ware than the grease does.
