Are there traces of antifreeze around the coolant tank?

handles a bit better now.

There's definitely no pressure on the system so it's going somewhere.
The level is always low but i never see where it goes. I can top it up and it will drop an inch fairly quick but then not drop anymore
Have a look down the side of the oil filter housing see if there's water in the V, I bought one those vacuum filling kits off eBay for another job and there's a pump in to pressurise the system that's how I found my leak turned out to be the stat housing, water just sat in the V and dried up.

A good strong lamp and like kda says, start looking into the V or use a long cable or similar and poke about and look for residue, maybe pink or green crystals👍

i nobbed about with the cap for a while last night.. parked at work this morning and there was some pressure in the system! so i think that proves its a dodgy cap
If it's just been driven there will be some pressure my mate. If it's cold there shouldn't be. The more modern systems are more efficient as these engines run even hotter for the emissions so they had to up the game for the cooling systems. 👍

I think you've misread somewhere lol.
Yesterday.. or was it day before.. engine war fully hot with no system pressure.. after messing with the cap there was "some" pressure, but not as much as i would have expected for a hot engine. So i think it proved the cap is leaking and not any other part of the cooling system :)
