Hey y'all how's it hanging ? Just a quick question I have found that the ass who did my oil change last year has rounded my sump not completely but where I can't get it off ,is anyone near Speke area that could do this for me I'd pay if course only can't find anyone who will.come to me and get it off for me so I can complete the oil and filter change any help appreciated,thanks all Tony

I'm worried I might snap it do you think mole grips will work ? I could give it a go I suppose ,I was thinking of whacking an Irwin socket on and trying that too I could give it a go .

The sump plug? You won't snap it.
When you put the new plug in make sure it goes in easy and the thread isn't damaged, it should be ok though

Stilsons are better if you can get a good purchase on the plug, but mole grips should be ok unless they are worn out and smooth

It's a pain isn't it mines the same but I guessed it said mole grips I've sent some dodgy messages due to auto correct haha ,thanks mate I'll try tomorrow morning first thing

There's no excuse for mashing a sump plug, even less for putting a mashed one back in!! I mean there's always an exception in emergencies to get you home etc.

It's not a plastic one, is it?

No solid metal they did though it was fine as I had seen it then I went to undo it and it's wrecked so they even put it back like that no excuse at all they're cowboys !

If you can get to it easily and have a decent angle grinder, preferably with a nice cutting disc. You could put two parallel flats on it the next size down, or at a size you have a decent spanner for. Then undo it.
If you can’t trust yourself with an angle grinder near your sump, don’t do this!

Thanks for that that's another great idea pretty good with an angle grinder so if moleys don't work I'll try that second thanks for that !

Don't know the D4, but is there no chance of draining the sump via the dipstick hole?
I have been doing this on my D2 for a number of years for precisely the same problem as you have. It works fine, if a little tedious.

No one seems to have mentioned it, but would it not be possible to weld a bigger nut onto it then take it off that way? then replace it with a new one?

The weld idea is also a really good one that's a great idea ! I don't have a dipstick on the d4 but maybe could drain through filler hole ? Another thing to consider so that's 5 ideas that I'm sure one will work ! in morning I'll try will take some pics of what a certain garage did to my sump to and said nothing , thanks for that it's a good one !

You'd never be able to drain through the filler hole I don't think.
But the weld-a-nut-to-the-plug idea isn't new. Somewhere I have a book that goes back to the dawn of time on welding that mentions all sorts of ways of using a welder to do just this. And this was before MIG had been invented.
One good thing, if you can do it, is to find a penny washer, or make something, that has a hole in the middle that will go over the plug, to protect the sump etc from weld, before welding a decent sized nut to the plug before taking it out.

I sure can I have plenty of washer bolts and bits and a nice mig welder so should be easy as a dab hand with a MiG too , will try this as seems easiest and fail. Safe too ,I'll get it ready in a bit for morning see how it goes but should be relatively easy that way thank you !

Hope u don’t mind me adding but as the D4 doesn’t have a dipstick anymore there’s a dedicated engine oil tube that allows to to vacuum drain the engine oil out

It’s near the front left hand side of the engine as u look at it , will see if I can find a picture for u

I use one of these, Hope that also helps u

Hi mate

As u say , on the D4 seeing there’s no dipstick it has a dedicated engine oil drain tube

Found a video for u reference with regard to the tube and its location

As a side note do a similar thing but using the dipstick tube on my D3
