It`s not gone yet, but it`s starting to make some noise.

When I press the clutch, it`s making a bit of a rattling slightly grinding noise (when I let go of the clutch, the noise is gone).

When using/driving the car, there are no real abnormalities which I have noticed in the clutch.

It this something I should be driving around with a lot longer or should I have this fixed better sooner than later?

I will have take it to the garage to get it fixed since I really don`t have the time and am a somewhat Landrover-newby, would this be a costly job?

Any response/input is greatly appreciated!

Could be your thrust bearing, no idea how long it will last I'm afraid, depends how many hill starts you do and how much you let the wife drive.....

a clutch replacement on a disco1 by a 4x4 garage would set you back around £350-£400. you can replace them yourself but wouldn't recommend it without a mate to help you out.

For the moment, there`s not a lot of hill climbing and 'the wife`s' not driving her (yet ), so I`ll go asking around what prices are for changing the clutch (have a Landrover dealer in town, so I`m curious what they say it will cost).

Anything else that needs replacing now that we`re going to replace the clutch anyway?

I had to call into Land Rover main stealer at Melton Mowbray and for my V reg series II Disco they charge £80 an hour plus vat, they found my problem but as they didn't have the replacement part in stock they didn't charge me for the hour they spent looking at it

most stealers are charging £80-85 an hour. Indies charge about £40-45.
