Hi Thanks for help so far: the problem is the power steering seems to jam and become real tight and then it comes right and you can steer normally. When stationary and I turn to full lock it pulsates and you can feel it through the steering wheel. Its quite scary going around corners!

Welcome. Check tension on serpentine belt.
Check for a dry joint on the steering

Also check how the steering box has been adjusted, if it’s been over adjusted it can bind
