Having trouble with central locking av changed the latch in rear drivers side but still not opening properly...any help

Always worth posting in the welcome section first.
Something along the lines of, Hi I am mad and bought a land rover, even worse its a D4 and whilst waiting for the crank to snap, I thought I would try and fix the door

New or 2nd hand latch?
Did you hook up the silly little cable?
Does i open from outsdie/inside or neither?
