Had a bit of spare time so I decided to remove the level sender unit from my old (the original, Genuine LR pump). Might end up putting this sender unit on the new(ish) VDO Siemens pump. For anyone that's interested this is what it looked like when stripped:

The sender unit was easy to remove - used a small screwdriver to gently pry both plastic tabs on one side and free the unit from the plastic body of the pump - two blue wires with spade connectors also pried off gently. The motor only has the following identifying marks - C26202 G193 (did a Google search, but nothing) - wonder who made/makes the motor?

in a genuine LR pump the motor should be VDO p/n A2C59511614 albeit there are many manufacturers of this type of pump,

examples of decent brands:

FISPA 20484
MEAT & DORIA 77008
HOFFER 7507008
ACI - AVESA ABG-1141
SIDAT 70484

and few chinese ones too

But, Why??

Cheers

The new pump (it replaced original genuine LR pump) is an OEM VDO Siemens and the fuel gauge reading (unlike the original has been unreliable since the day it was installed). When I get time I'll pull the VDO Siemens pump out and see if there is anything obviously wrong with the level sender unit (float and potentiometer), if not I might just go ahead and replace the level sender unit with the one I took off the old pump.
