When i bought mine the kit came with this kind of bracket http://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk/...thermo-top-cez-heater-mounting-bracket-87394b and it was fitted to my D2 without probs, you can see it in the kit i bought as well

Cheers for the reply, nowhere near enough room in D1, think I may have to rip out the air powered cruise gubbins (crap anyway) and put it thereI mounted the unit exactly where the factory fitted one should be as the wiring was already there, i think a D1 is different also mine is LHD so it's on the RH side

Such a shame the "powered cruise gubbins carp" is not to your liking, or isn't it working? Love it on Mways or even good A roads, so much easier way of keeping your licence and fuel costs down. Mind you, I have a TD5 auto, so maybe it ain't so good in a 300tdi!
Could this be of any use?

and/or this which seems pretty comprehensive

You are going to think I am bonkers but I'd rather have a hand throttle than cruise control. I DO understand what you mean, but I'd rather save fuel so, when on an Mway in the Massif Central for instance, I would rather climb up a long slope at lower speed and thus lower throttle. With your type of control this would happen, as it would with a hand throttle, instead the TD5 tries to keep up the speed and would drink the fuel if I didn't turn it off and use the pedals or reset it at a lower speed. And even if I just leave it on, it can behave really oddly, not sure which gear it wants to be in etc.Thankyou for the links, yes mate my cruise works but it's crap! You have a TD5 which means you have an ECU, which means you have 'proper' cruise control. Good luck to you and enjoy, I have an air powered leftover from the industrial revolution which lodges the throttle into position physically, then loses speed according to terrain. Great innit? or "that'll do" as they say in Solihull.
Fair enough pal, I'm asking where people have retro fitted a top c pre heater inside a D1 engine bay though. I don't see anywhere obvious (top c is quite chunky) so mentioned I'd considered removing my antique cruise mechanism to fit it in. A pre heater will be way more useful than cruise in Arctic Norway, which is where I'm going, whether it works properly or not. Unfortunately your links are dealing with TD5 D2's which were factory fitted with pre heaters, D1s weren't.
Yeah, cheers. My mate who's helping me fit it suggested that so I'll take it on board. Thanks. What about behind the front bumper one side or the other? I fitted a Merc one there years ago.
