My car failed it's MOT last week. I'm in shame - it's the first vehicle I have ever taken to MOT and failed!
The problem's a broken front passenger-side suspension spring. The fracture's right at the bottom of the spring so it's had no discernable effect.
The MOT station says this is now really common in Edinburgh due to (1) loads of cobbles streets, (2) sleeping policemen, and (3) the general poor state of the roads (bloody council!). However they said it's unusual on Landy's (for obvious reasons!).
I had no idea at all! No noises, nothing immediately visible, and the vehicle still sat flat on the ground.
The Disco's done some green lanes and farm tracks, but nothing too serious, so I guess it's a road/tarmac induced problem.
Replacement spring's (£50) getting fitted on Wednesday by my local non-stealer mechanic, and back for a re-MOT whilst it's in the re-test 10 day limit.
May be worth a check before the MOT, I will next time!
