i am having trouble with 2nd gear on my 1993 disco. is it better to get the box reconditioned or get a new box. also does anyone know anywhere in dorset that recon's gearbox's???

tiz a common LT77 problem (it IS an LT77?) - there are uprated syncros available - I believe Ashcrofts exchange box (£395) includes the new syncros and a drilled shaft. tons of LT77 and R380 boxes on fleabay, but one has to ask "are they selling them, coz they have buggered syncros"?

A common fault with these boxes is a thrust washer in the 1 - 2 synchro assembly splitting in half and blocking movement. Rebuild the gearbox and replace both thrust washers in the 1 - 2 assembly.

try thornsford transmissions in yetminster they will either fix your fault or recon the box for you i can find there number if you like
