Having been looking at a shaking door mirror for far too long, I whipped off the card and top hinge to tighten the mirror fixing screws.

Found this, interesting.

And this, slightly more of a worry.

I have winter problems with some or all central locking.
Guess I can puncture through the plastic sheet and grease the rod joints etc.
What lube suits the glass channels? White grease?

I use vaseline in all the channels that have the 'felt'stuff in ... helps lube and keep the water off ...

The white grease goes rock hard when it very cold, don't think that'll help ... a light machine oil should do the rods and stuff, graphite powder for inside the lock itself ...

Tis better to pull the sheet to one side or a corner down, as it helps water to shed off, when it gets past the waist rails ...

Vaseline it is.
I did notice the plastic sheet had peeled away near the lock push down button and stuck to the actuator rod, this might account for a sticky lock.

Pretty common fault on that location as it’s a stress point on thin sheet -slamming of a door on a poorly adjusted hinge/ striker will do it. (Normal use!)

Drill Two holes and rivet/screw a brace behind the crack to stabilise and stop it developing further - otherwise a strip out and a couple of tack welds will do fine.

So got everything back together, the card fixings in the door frame aren't great and several keep popping back out.

Any thoughts on how to secure the card a bit better?

Is it the card torn or the fixing fubared ?

Card is in good nic,
new pins on the card don't hold in the door inserts very well, i'll try renewing all.

Make sure you get the correct ones, some are shite as you're finding out ...

Don’t weaken and do what the Luddite previous owner of mine did - a splendid cocktail of Sikaflex and self tapping screws.......

Robust, but agricultural to say the least.
