Hiya guys. As title says I want to fit a light bar to the roof but struggling to find a way to fit one. Searches on here just show me for fitting to a disco

They managed to fit dirty great lights to lighthouse roofs as long ago as 300 years or more, sure it can't be that hard

I don't want to chop into the roof or leave regretful holes

Iv seen bars without lights fit into the lip of the roof but for attaching up to 4 separate lights.

I'm fancying a long solid 52inch LED bar but all the fittings iv seen for them wouldn't work I don't think

I thought the light bars had adjustable fittings, so you could fit to an existing 4 position bar. Or you could always cut and weld new brackets on it.

"regretful holes"? They won't be regretful once they have a pop rivet in. You could fab up a nice faired cowl like they used to do on rally car bonnets.

You will have to drill holes most likely. Light bars come with some mounting brackets, these may or may not be suitable. Light mounting bars for a Defender will fit a Series, but may not be suitable for a led light bar to attach too.

That said, I wouldn't fit a light bar to the roof. It'll just light the bonnet up and blind you. Much better to fit the light in front of the vehicle IMO.

I did wonder about the bonnet illumination issue, I have a roof rack and was looking at fitting a light bar to that, but I can imagine getting a very good view of my bonnet mounted spare and not a lot else.

If you have a roof rack, then the mounts that come with a light bar could potentially be adapted to fit it.

If you want the lights as work lights or maybe laning at night, they can work on the front of the roof, but they will generally make it hard to see much beyond the vehicle as the light will reflect and glare at you. This is all IMO but I've driven Land Rover's and tractors with lights on the roof and they are ok for their intended purpose, but no good on the road or road speeds.

If you look at pickup trucks, they often mount lights behind the cab on a roll bar. This is because the cap creates a shadow and stops the bonnet being illuminated. Else I'd recommend either mount on the top front of the bonnet (looks a bit ugly) or in front of the rad and/or on the bumper.
