Hi, my name is Phil and I've joined your forum to hopefully get some good advice. I can only apologise for not being able to contribute anything of value, for now.

Welcome to the madhouse! What sort of Land Rover are you looking for? A Defender, Disco, Freelander or Range Rover? The only Defenders that left the factory with an autobox (as far as I know) were V8 90 50th anniversary models and they are now £30000 plus!!

Welcome. Military Land Rovers have only one thing in common with their civvie brethern......unreliability.
I suggest you read around all the forums and get a feel for all models. However, at your engine size restrictions, and auto, it sounds like Freelander is the way to go.
Only you will know when you find the one you like.
Enjoy the research :D

Thanks for the welcome, Wireman, I don't know which model I want. I've edited my intro as I've read I should post the question elsewhere.

Thanks for the welcome, Turktowner. I'm trying to get as new as possible because I'm at that age where I don't work on cars. Does it matter about high mileage? What about cam belts and like? I'm weary of buying an older model, which turns out to be a pig.

Decide which model you want first. Then come back and search for/ ask the questions you have above. There is far too much information to cover in your vagueness of model. Help the folks help you , narrow it down a bit. ;)

Edit: If you click the reply button, you can answer the individual poster , and they get notified. Or put @ before their name and tag them

Whoa you're getting to technical. GR I've just replied on the general forum to, Neilly, that I think it'll be the Freelander.
