Welcome to the madhouse! What sort of Land Rover are you looking for? A Defender, Disco, Freelander or Range Rover? The only Defenders that left the factory with an autobox (as far as I know) were V8 90 50th anniversary models and they are now £30000 plus!!

Welcome. Military Land Rovers have only one thing in common with their civvie brethern......unreliability.
I suggest you read around all the forums and get a feel for all models. However, at your engine size restrictions, and auto, it sounds like Freelander is the way to go.
Only you will know when you find the one you like.

Not definitive but if you could go up a little to 2.7 ish you could look at RRS but mpg not great. Have a look at this lot

Decide which model you want first. Then come back and search for/ ask the questions you have above. There is far too much information to cover in your vagueness of model. Help the folks help you , narrow it down a bit.
