Just doing a bit of research, what would be involved in swapping out a lt77 for r380 gearbox?
Any changes in crossmembers and will it work with the existing transfer case?
It's in a 1984 range rover classic so it's the long stick version, and suffix d, so weakest of the lt77s...

Thanks!

Ok so what r380s came with a long stick?
defender, but in needs to be v8 if fitting a v8,though disco or rrc box can be used if you get and ashcrofts selector rail converter and defender g box top selector housing etc

Ok, the engine in the range rover is the original 3.5, so it will need to be that...

Just seen this here which could mean I can use a v8 discovery r380 or not? Because if I remember correctly there is two different types of bellhousing? One is different for diesel engines?

Thanks for your help by the way, much appreciated:)
yes as ive added to my previous post, there are many different bell housings and input shafts to fit the numerous engines lr used, youd be best with disco 1 box and bell housing

Also what are Ashcrofts rebuilt gearboxes like? Worth the money or vastly overpriced?!

Will be importing it to NZ with a load of other stuff from them and a few other companies if I do get it
