Good day.

I have a 1990 Range Rover vogue SE SWB. I am experiencing heat from under the centre console, storage box, and lower seats. I have tried adjusting the climate control but it does not seem to help.
Its quite hot here in Aussie at the moment and the heat generated is uncomfortable even with the windows opened.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
I took off the storage box and below I could see two plastic heating? tubes running thru the console.
I am suprised how hot the storage box gets...its heats up your mobile, CD's, etc...so makes the box unuseable. I noted that the gear box consul and metal gear stick is also warm 2 hot to touch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Problem 2....leakage from airconditioning on passenger side. When air is on and I am pushing the trottle on the motorway passing, or driving up a hill...it leaks.....

You do not state what engine it is, so I will assume that it is a V8.

The heat generated from the engine and gearbox is normal, It does heat up the centre consol and surrounding area. It is early technology, and when the P38 was produced it was much better due to better insulation, and control over the gearbox was then electric.

The tubes are for the rear passenger heating, pretty useless at the time of manufacture and useless now.

Air con is possibly the outlet tubes being blocked or the hose is detached.

Go under the front of the vehicle and check that the outlet hose is not blocked, you can do this with a bent wire coat hanger.

If that is ok pull off the wooly cover underneath the passeger side of the dash and check that the hoses are not split or disconected.

I wouldn't put it quite like that. Try sitting as a rear passenger at -30 oC. You would want your feet to get warm - trust me. And they will, thanks to these tubes. Not everyone live around the tropics, you know...

The P38 was first on sale in 1995, the classic was also produced at the same time for one more year.
