Hi peeps hope you’re all well :)
I would dearly love to pick someone’s brains, oops mean knowledge :rolleyes:
Could anyone tell me where the crankcase breather is on my darling wagon please
Going to give it a clean out when I find it as she’s just rolled 101k
Many thanks and before I end up in the naughty corner snoopy is a 2010 3ltr Sport oil burner.

Im not familiar with your deseazel I'm afraid, I would start by taking off the plastic crap from the top off the engine and looking around the or a rocker cover for a disk shaped errr disk... With a pipe that joins into your air intake system.. sorry to be vague. These are known to clog with crap and jam open or shut on most engines leading to breather pipes blowing off or blowing oil by the seals...
I hope there is something in this to help you;)
 
Thanks Mark, seems everyone has shed loads of knowledge on the older engines but not so much on the newish ones, will start next week taking off the “plasticky “ bits and see what I can find, she’s just rolled 101k so would like to find the thing and either clean or replace it, don’t want to be building a back pressure and start popping oil seals.
If in doubt “ get yer fecking hands mucky” :rolleyes::)
 
It sounds a bit tough, but the first thing I do on my own engines is take all the plastic pretty crap off...and sling it!!
It hides no end of problems, without it you can glance over an engine and see if there's any leaks above and below..
Do a quick search on the net using your engine type... actually I just did that and I can't find anything.. but try any way.. engines are going to screwed over by the emission laws and we'll all be driving electric cars in ten years!!!
Sorry. .end rant.. I hope a more knowledgeable peep drops in for you..
Take a mooch but if you don't know.... Don't go ! Good luck:)

don’t know how different they are in my 2.7 TDV6 to urs, but on the 2.7 they are a bitch to get in and out and normally end up getting broken

to date i haven’t heard of one getting blocked up or req cleaning out

may i ask is there a reason ur wishing to remove them plse

know that’s not much help to u and will try and see how the 2.7 and 3.0 compare , more than likely same as a D4

urs is a 6 x speed box isn’t it without the rotary gear selector

Mark, thanks I’ve had the same trouble there seems to be nowt about for the 3ltr it appears then to be either outstandingly good or that p**s poor nobody talks about em and just blows the feckers up :)

gstuart, thanks old habits I suppose from my earlier years, when motors got some miles on their backs just used to check all the breathers when servicing. Local mechanic whose pretty good on landys won’t touch the newer models draws the line at the 2.7 as he says owt newer is just too much hassle.
Just one question to anyone though gonna bite the bullet and take out the suspension compressor next week to check the air dryer due to ongoing intermittent ‘normal height only’ which when code read says filling res too slow. Is there anywhere I can purchase the desiccant if required, I’ve checked bay and everything is for hitachi compressor none for the amk which is wots on mine.

Exactly burn fossil fuels, but I thought the idea was to reduce emissions .o_O Re. the air dryer I stripped one for the P38 some years ago. The problem with mine was the desiccant powdering which was being ingested by the valve block. I sieved the desiccant then dried it in the oven. There are a couple of filter pads as well that I washed and dried thoroughly.Never had a problem with it since ,ooh kiss of death.
 
Thanks tomcat59alan heard about the drying in the oven bit but didn’t know if they were just talking rubbish will defo give that a spin before investing in a new compressor :) as for emissions bar humbug ! Needs must in times of want, these greenie type eco warriors can’t have it both ways you can’t have endless electrickery without the down side. Oops I’m gettin on mi soap box not going there :rolleyes: will update the results when job done during the week.

Tight bugger. fit a new one, they are not expensive.
 
Not expensive !! :eek: Run that past her indoors just cost me 3 weeks housework for two new tyres, god only knows what I’ll have to do for a new compressor :confused::confused:
Made the mistake of quoting an old saying ‘if it’s got t**s or wheels it’s gonna cost’ :(:(

no worries and hope it may help, also have learnt a lot in the past year with this engine and systems, code reader and multimeter are i feel an essential tool with these

@tomcat59alan is spot on, dry out the dissident beads , unless it’s all turned to dust

don’t forget you’ve got the air compressor inlet filter in the boot locker, passenger side , has 2 x filters inside of it , is a round black canister

also assume it doesn’t drop overnight
 
Morning gstuart, no significant drop even over a few days of been left in the garage, gonna take the cover off and do the soapy water test on the pipes etc, would I be right in thinking that she wouldn’t lower if the reservoir lost air ? As any airloss would be prevented by the valve block.

is good it doesn’t drop

indeed the reservoir valve block isolates the tank when turned off, it’s when u start the engine, valve opens looking for that reserve amount of air if req, if there’s a split in it the compressor will try and catch up, they normally leak on the top weld , same token if the dryer is blocked it can’t pull in air from the outside, compressor gets too hot and shuts down,

pressure sensor is located on the reservoir valve block

having a diagnostic reader is very useful as u can see live data , ie, what the compressor is producing in pressure and temperature, etc

i’ve put a link up ref the suspension system , hopefully it might be of use to u , alas is showing a hitachi but how the rest of the system works

may i ask plse , is there a button on ur dashboard marked DSC ( dynamic stability control )

this is my first air suspension system i’ve owned so indeed has been a steep learning curve

hope that makes sense and for my facts to be 100% correct , lol

In answer to your question I do indeed have a DSC button on the dash but it isn’t marked dsc but has an image of a car with two squiggly lines like skid marks under it

Ref the DSC button , u will see in that link cross over is mentioned , when ur off road u press the DSC button to disable it , that then sets the vehicle up to act like a live beam axle suspension system, ie when one wheel goes down the other side will go up ,therefore it tries to keep the wheels in contact with the ground as much as it can , it also tries to keep the body level as humanly possible according to terrain using internal gyro sensors , steering wheel angle sensor etc etc

just ensure it’s turned back on when u get back on the tarmac

it’s Gary by the way and indeed i also found that kind of info useful, surprising how quick u pick things up, my suspension wasn’t working and ended up rebuilding most of it, but bought mine as a project so knew things weren’t right , unfortunately cowboys had tried to repair things so took me nearly a year to sort them out first , throughout before i could then start going through it properly inch by inch

if ur going to keep the landy long term i would buy a diagnostic reader, saves a fortune in the long run and best thing always having it to hand
 
Hi Gary, yeah the diagram and assoc info makes it quite easy to understand for me as before I took the queens shilling for 30yrs I was a mech engineer.
As for keeping the car I think I’ve said before she was a retirement present to myself as I fell for them whilst using them at work, plus the boss lady says I can’t have another.
I think the reader is gonna be a must so will start dropping hints for a family club up for Christmas :):rolleyes:
Will update as I progress, slowly mind as it’s a long time since I’ve wheelded a spanner in anger:oops:

that’s a very handy skill to have, lol

indeed , personally i found the gap iid to be the best out there, alas are currently £420 but will do virtually everything the land rover systems can, on older landies they use the T4 system but for the later models like ours they use jaguar systems , can’t remember the name of it , mine paid for itself in the first month , lol , also not having to mess around with garages every time it decided to throw a strop

apologises didn’t read that bit concerning buying it as a retirement gift

glad the info was of some use , more than happy to help where i can, but know the members here have considerate experience and i’ve also in the same token learnt a lot
