I have a 96 defender 90 with an 85 2.2 petrol engine.What engine/gearbox combination would go in to boost my fun without having to do much chopping.Think big !!!!!! Anybody have anything to sell ???

the obvious bundle of fun and nice sounds is a V8. why did the '96 end up with a 2.2 petrol?

A v8 sounds good but i am told a fair bit of cutting and welding is involved.The original diesel engine was stolen and the last owner put the petrol engine in.

personaly i'd go 4 a 300TDi.....nice strong reliable moter

depends on how ya look at it. I tend to never make my decisions based on cost, coz ya always end up getting wot ya didn't want. i decide on wot i want, then get it at whateva the cost.

To be honest I always thought the 200tdi was the better engine, or have I just heard to many horror stories about the 300tdi cambelts, heads.
Plus you only ned one wire to run a 200tdi

think they both pretty good sir ian, 300 has a bit more grunt tho. i would go 4 a TD5, i love em, but they do give trouble. mine is coming up 4 320,000 km and still runs like a dream, but is has not been without trouble. ta me, all depends on how well ya look after it.
