Hi All,

New to the forum but would appreciate any advice with this long running problem.

TD6 L322 Range Rover Vogue 2006

Runs fine on full tank of fuel. As fuel starts to get close to 1/2 tank it starts to run terribly. Intermittent loss of power, juddering etc. At below 1/2 tank car will die as though run out of fuel and will not restart until diesel put in. Have to keep tank filled up to avoid problem.

I’m thinking it is a possible fuel pump issue? Has been into garage a couple of times for one thing or another but nobody seems to want to address this issue and directs me back to Land Rover Dealers?

I’m addition, I am getting tons of smoke from passenger side in cold temperatures. Looks like engine has gone on fire and smells of burning diesel. I’ve lived with this for a couple of years and know it is something to do with Fuel Burning Heater but Land Rover specialist a couple of years back said it was a normal issue?? Wife won’t drive car in cold weather or turns all the heaters off to avoid it happening as last time someone tried to pull her from the car at traffic lights believing she was on fire.

These problems have been suffered for a long time and despite much expense in garage bills we still have the issue.

If anyone has any experience and solutions to these problems I would be very grateful!

Thanks,

Ryan

The engine fueling issue could be as simple as needing a new feed pump it's probably not outtput enough pressure and so the fuel is relying on its own weight and gravity to feed the engine. As for the heater it's normal for them to smoke when they start,if you let it get thoroughly warmed up and on max temp then leave it to run until it's clear it will burn up all the crud that's built up in it and run cleaner.switching it off while it's trying to start is the worst thing to do as it then gets full of unburnt fuel and makes it harder to ignite. I'm not an expert on this it's just from experience. If you post on the RR forum someone there will also help you who no doubt knows more than I

Thanks Joemac434,

Appreciate the help and definitely sounds like the fuel pump. I believe there are two fuel pumps on these models? Hopefully it will be the external pump which I believe is the easier to replace.

Thanks Again,

Ryan

Yes that's the easiest one thank goodness and cheaper of the 2,still might be up to£400 if done by a stealer dealer but if you can find an independent who's trustworthy near you I'd go there. While they're at it pays to change the filters on the diesel system as well because there could be dirt got in them and it stops further trouble down the line.Pleased if I was if help that's what this forum is all about.Hope it's soon sorted ,all the best Joe
