When was the EGR fitted to diesels,

I think that I may need to have a discussion with a new garage about whether mine should or should not have an EGR so want to go in as informed as possible. Garage is saying that a replacement no4 injector is not being seen and maybe the wrong part. Mine is a 99 model and registered in Nov 99 so my understanding is that this is a good time after they started fitting EGR but the garage have said that the engine has a plastic intake and has had a new engine so could be wrong part ordered.

cheers

As far as I know it was about 98/ 99 that the egr was introduced along with plastic manifold and extra temp sensors in the head
sounds like you have the right engine fitted, I think there would be a lot to swap over, ecu wiring just for an engine swap and if that was done it should work ok.
Wammers would be the man in the know.

EGR came in for MY 1998. EGR has a different loom than non EGR, only difference as far as i am aware between the early and later number four injector is the plug that attaches it to the loom. They are both the same injector other than the plugs.

Thanks, guy was OK in the end, think it was my paranoia with a new garage A quick question Wammers could the engine be running in default mode without any errors? If so how do you know its in default mode?
He said the the sensor had disconnected but I did not notice any change in performance and no change in performance again on way home. So think car maybe permanently in default mode as its always performed the same no matter what was wrong or right with it.

Sounds like you could do with sticking it on some good diag just to check everything is as it should be.

If the number four injector is not connected or fails there will be no static timing correction, the Mil lamp will be lit and the engine will run in limp mode. Little power above 2500 rpm.

EGR 1998. Extra sensor to bring on condenser fans on overheat 1999. ;);)

And I think only the colour of the plug is different as both will fit into the loom
