Just probably a stooopid question, but.. lifting off the head off my diesel this weekend and I see in RAVE that it gets lifted with an engine crane and I see someone on Yoootooob also using one. Is it really that heavy.? Taken the manifolds off and wonder, being ally', can it just be lifted carefully by hand. Do I need to organise a lift just in case..?

Get a good standing position and lift - it is a lump by manageable if you are capable enough.

Many Thanks, I've taken off nearly everything and did think it could lift off clear of the dowels by hand.

Vehicle at access height, get a pillow/cushion/bubble wrap as a soft place to put it down within reach of the working position in the engine bay, bonnet in Service Position, kneel on the slam panel, lift straight up and then quickly place on the 'soft landing' then climb down and remove the head from the engine bay.

Or hand it to a m8 with clean butter free hands.

Call off the paramedics.. Lifted off easily by hand, stood on the ground at the front of the truck. Thanks everyone for the advice, now the fun begins..

Did it myself yesterday. Piece of carpet on the eas box, stand in the engine bay and lift and place on the carpet helps if you are built like a brick ****house but not really a problem.

How did you manage to stand in the engine bay..!! Gawd know how many sockets and spanners I've dropped in there and never seen again and never dropout the bottom..

You stand on the dropped tools of course. There is room to stand on the suspension bag struts.
