After a crappy hour at the dentist I returned home to find bitch dumping its coolant on the drive. I didn't have much time to investigate as I had an appointment elsewhere but it seems to be coming from the metal pipe that connects the heater pipe to the engine block below the thermostat housing. So its either the retaining bolt come loose or the securing bracket sheared from the pipe. It seems to hold water and pressure until the pipe is moved. Tomorrow will tell, anyone think of another cause bar the o ring.:(

M6 X 16 or M6 X 20 are standard which we keep here in stainless, 18mm is a bastard size.

Nope standard size and that is the correct call up. M6 x 18 can be had anywhere. ;)

Seems to be available as you say, but our local fastener suppliers say it's a 'non-standard' range, they don't stock it and neither does our other supplier, but plenty on the web.

Looking at some of the DIN fastener tables, 18mm is in brackets as a non-preferred size, which is probably why we've never used it, but availability is OK.

We don't actually use 16mm either, but we have a draw of them in the bolt rack!

Any hoof-prints in the lawn to track 'em? Sounds like some cowboy has been at it. :)
This pipe hasn't been touched since I bought the car in 1998 guess it was just corrosion holding it in. All sorted now, sorry I couldn't reply earlier as I was in North Wales picking up the o ring and a few other bits.
