It is bad luck though - a slight misfire - what do you check 1st? Everything!

From what Magicgrotto said earlier I was hoping I might be able to take number 4 piston out and hone that bore.
More bad news though. I was tying sandwich bags over all the pipes etc in the engine bay and thought I would smear some clean engine oil on the bores to keep the damp at bay. Obviously, No4 has issues. It felt ok when smearing the oil. All did except No1 which I detected a ridge.
I couldn't see it at first, but could feel it smearing the oil. With the oil on it shows up, It's a fine step change in diameter at that point.
Too right. It's gone from bad to worse.
Was hoping the damage on No4 might have been relatively less hassle to sort. Couldn't believe it when I felt that ridge in No1 when I was tidying up last thing. Looks like the block is off to a machine shop somewhere

Hmmm, that's interesting, Marmaduke. One of my sons went to Liverpool this weekend and he's there for two weeks! I doub't he'll take kindly to putting that block in the back of his 15 plate Corsa though. Mine should be able to be bored out a bit and bigger pistons put in, do you reckon?

I'd be inclined to buy a scrap disco for its engine, have a look at this for my current dilemmaToo right. It's gone from bad to worse.

I'd just started reading your thread.
Call me soppy, soft or sentimental, but I'm currently thinking of getting mine re-bored. Is this a daft idea?

if you go for a rebore make sure you buy the pitons first and get it bored to actual piston plus clearance size,piston size can vary
