Hi all,

I have found a reasonably clean and tidy RR diesel, with the 2925cc lump.
Just gone over the 131k miles.
It is the Vouge, TD6 5 speed auto.

In order of priority, or urgency, what would my knowledgeable friends here give me as the top 5 things to ask, or check for.

Last Land Rover was a series 3, from then, all Land Cruisers.
Now my wife likes this face lifted RR.

I imagine the Vouge is similar to the Vogue
Transmission, torque converter and valve body refurbished
Air suspension changes height quickly
Front and rear suspension arms and bushes
Reputable service history
Take it for a long test drive and watch for warning messages on dash display, torque converter not vibrating, changing gear smoothly.
Not overheating I guess, I don't know much about the tratter engine

Not necessarily in that order, all are important but the transmission is a potential £2-3 K

I would have thought the gearbox will be number 1. Has it been replaced/overhauled?

Air suspension, does it go fully up and stay up?

There will be more from those far more qualified than me.

Read this from one of the guys but its gearbox will go at 100,000 ish normal, bushes on drive train, EGR valve is for holding workshop door open
DO NOT buy thinking yes it has xxx problem but it will be OK as holidaychicken knows it will need doing

Service History is a good start or get good friends with your workshop and VISA card

Better than P38 to drive as a car but not as super solid and quality like P38 Landrover............we have both in our family
I wont say good luck as we all know it will break in time on known issues if not sorted when you buy it )).........nice car

In summary I will drive from Somerset - Baku (Azerbaijan) slowly in p38 not other younger L322

As the g'box has been mentioned, I guess more emphasis should be placed on this than probably all the others.

No one seems to have mentioned the BMW strait 6 engine, can I take it that these are generally, reasonably reliable ?

Bavarian Motor Works make good fairly sorted engines
This was taken from their car lines and bolted in to the bigger Rangy body
If you want the sport feeling get V8 Diesel or Petrol

It's for her , and no towing duties, she is a bit of a plodder style driver.

Firstly, good choice of of engine......for the wifey!!
They just don't possess the appropriate chromosomes to truly savour a Veight, even if you foolishly attempt to educate them they just shrug, a parallel reverse universe would have you giving it large about nail polish! Plain wrong.
The 2.5D suffered thrust bearing wear but ain't heard of the 2.9 following suit.....
Other than that you are depriving yourself of joy, time you will never recoup.

Look on the bright side, it's easy to convince yourself you are better off.

I am getting all confused, regarding @myfirstl322 's comment there isn't a 2.5 diesel in an L322 as far as i know and the TD6 is a 6 cylinder and i would opt for the later V8 3.6 diesel if possible but that is only me thinking newer is better and will be the Jag engine and a lot more power i believe, almost another 100 bhp ?

The TD6 is an incarnation of the 2.5, I never claimed it was available in the 322.

The TDV8s are a big gamble, they seem to enjoy ingesting egr valves.

Other than that they're awesome pieces of kit.

I also read about some of the V 8 problems.
Also the fact there are two turbochargers to worry about, where the 2963cc strait 6 only has the one.

Yes, the newer Jag V8 diesel is probably the engine of choice, working on the assumption that "newer is better" but I am not sure this would benefit us in our situation.

Her would not thrash it, like most man folk would.

Yeah, so wasn't only me who thought there might have been a touch of glue in that post !!

It depends on your budget I suppose and genuine service history is far better than a new vehicle that hasn't been looked after and good cars can come unstuck quite quickly if neglected as we know....

TD6s are crap, I had a 2010 200 horse 5 series with 30k and it wasn't great, imagine it would be dire with the FF body.

Fine for going to the nail bar probably but woefully dire, maybe I enjoy some spice in my life, sue me!!
