i know there is a colour difference between
ANR5814 colour grey upto 2001
and
XPD000020PUY colour black from 2001

but what i need to know is there any physical differences between them ? size , type of connection etc

The only difference is the colour, availability and price.

I'm the opposite. I really like the horn location on the FL1 and other Rover vehicles. There's no need to remove your hand from the rim to use them.
I hate horn buttons in the wheel centre of the wheel.

Except when you need to use them, your thumbs are pressing everywhere except for the buttons.

Except when you need to use them, you usually squirt the screen wash!

The only reliably method is a big button in the middle of the wheel or shouting and swearing a lot
