I'm trying to make my rear fog lights work. I have a query about the switch. Should this switch lock in the 'on' position. Mine doesn't seem to do this.

Isn't it one of those button type switches (as opposed to a switch type switch!)? ie when its pressed it sends a 'high' signal to (presumably) the CCU. The first time its pressed the CCU will turn the fogs on and also the light in the switch. Next time its pressed the CCU will turn fogs and light in the switch off.

Spot on GG. The CCU controls the fog lights. The switch is known as a momentary switch. So it only makes the connection, when it's actually being pressed. The rest is down to the CCU, making sure all other parameters are met, before it switches the fogs on.

Forgot about parameters! Everything needs parameters these days. Still, I suppose it makes sense for lots of things - like not turning on the rear demist if the window's not up. Computers are so much more cleverer and reliable than humans - at least the ones I don't program are

A computer isn't cleverer than an average human brain. What computers are good at is following exact rules, or programmes. They can only follow the programming, to the point that something outside of the programme, causes it to crash. Thankfully humans don't do that, well most don't anyway.

you do have to have your lights switch on as well have you done that?

CCU will only power the rear fog lamps if:
The ignition is on.
The headlamps are on.
If the ignition is cycled, the fogs will go off, until the fog lamp switch is pressed again.

I didn't realise there was so much to know about fog lamp switches. I'll put the switch back in and turn the ignition on this time
