If you ever get stuck an want any advise on fabrication or welding or chassis swaps I have got a workshop on the out skirts of Worcester we are still getting settled and acquiring tools but we are always willing to help and I certainly don't charge a lot at all for labour and my advise is free I am currently build my own chassis check out my thread .series 2a 109 recovery truck .....I'll let you into a secret ......All my knowledge is self taught costly learning curves but self taught. I have built drag bikes (which I still own ) crossers one off 4x4 bugs a homemade hydrolic digger out of a throws back actor with a friend .and it was all self taught proper scrap heap challenge style . My advise to you do it .When someones says you can't take your time figure out the process then show them how to reverse engineer something then make your own process .THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THAN TO PICK UP THE TOOLS AND TRYThat's a big part of the reason I bought the defender, I wanted to learn how to fix and maintain it all myself. Some parts I need help with as I haven't got the confidence or experience to do some of the bigger stuff yet but I suppose that will come with time. I do really enjoy it though, I've already lost count how many hours I have worked on or researched how to do different things. My goal is to have a go at swapping the chassis!
