So a mate of mine had his headgasket go on his 200tdi. He had the head pressure tested and skimmed and which came back good. Fitted the new gasket and when he ran it it was lumpy and basically ****ty. He got a mate from a garage to come around and after some messing about they removed the head again and found some sort of metal and a cracked piston. I brought the engine off him cheap and he's put another in. Ive picked the head up and after a little clean around the valves of piston number 2 I wonder if it's alright to use. I plan on replacing the cracked piston or all if the bores turn out to be too worn however I did see the bores when he was doing the head and the original honing marks were still very visible.

Regarding the washer I have no idea how that got in there. I think I posted a thread up a while ago mentioning it and a valve cap was mentioned could have possibly got in.

Only thing I can see James is that with the dents some bits of metal sit proud of the flat surface. Valves look OK.

Nice one James. Thanks again. I'm sure there will be more questions to come with the rest of the engine lol

ive fitted quite a few like that and theyve all served good lives, obviously its nice t fit new but that costs

If there's some way to clean up the burring so nothing comes loose inside the cylinder, I'd guess there's no reason it wouldn't run.

I was thinking of a file lightly and avoid filing the smooth surface. Looking forward to getting the bottom end and rebuilding it!

i use one of these a bearing scraper, a good chisel would do by hand

Ok so picked the block up tonight and it shat the remaining oil in my work van.... Luckily I go to florida tomorrow so I don't give a damn hehe. It's currently sat on the lawn until a mate pops around later but I'm just taking note of the things that it's missing..

From what I can see here it's missing oil filter housing (needs the 19j one if I remember)

Lift pump
Crank breather
Cyclone

Anything else this Side?

power steering pump is missing as well as the pulleys and other stuff, think ill use this block and make one decent engine out of the two i have.

Other than that the price of parts to replace everything is going to mount up

I belive this fuel pump to be set standard so that's a plus. As well as the cam bearings aren't shot like on my block
