Hi,

I recently installed a new toy (SEE HERE)

The problem that I have is:

there is a metal bar that the back of the stereo backs up to and it is in the way!

I need to plug some USB cables into the back of my stereo / computer, but with the metal bar in the way I can't get the stereo to fit properly and it doesn't clip into the housing, it needs to move in an extra 1cm, but the USB cables hit the metal bar and stop it moving any further (hope that makes sense).

Anyway, I am thinking about taking the piece of metal out, however, I don't know how important it is.

Does anyone know what it is for?

There are a few types of right-angled USB extensions cables that might fit without the need for any cutting. Might be worth having a look at some to see if you think they may fit before you chop anything.

Are you sure its is 'bar' as you will have a bit of a job cutting that, and not tube which is used as dash support.

That's a good idea, it might just work, I can get for about £3 from amazon so hopefully worth the investment thanks

I guess 'bar' probably isn't the right word but it's defo not a tube ... its about 1 - 1.5 inch wide and maybe 1.5mm thick

ordered some right angle usb cables, didn't realise they were coming from bloody china though and will probably take a month to get here

90 percent of electronic kit is manufactured in China now, even if you perchase it in the UK. I get my stuff within 10 days usually, if I can't wait then it comes in 3 days from a supplier in the UK for a few quid more.

Lost in translation maybe "free delivery to the UK" is "free UK delivery" other countries have to pay. Some even put Royal Mail in their post info.. Still comes from China, some do hold a stock in the UK as I've found out to my surprise a few times.

Next time will have a good look at the seller before committing to buy.

How they can manufacture such things and have them posted to the UK for stupidly cheap prices I will never know!! (£1 for a cable)

I have a friend in China at the moment, he said it's the mass production they have keeps the cost down, huge factories with hundreds of people making USB cables at once for instance, then there's the subsidies from the Chinese government.
Just convert the cost shown on the cn22 customs label stuck to the packet into sterling, and u will find that the cable u received is 10p or less.
A whole town for just in the manufacture of LEDs and lighting among a few other things of course.

Sorry for the delay.

I finally got these and got round to fitting them onto the back of my car-puter.

Guess what, they're still to big.

It's still 2mm to long with the usb cables on.

I'm beginning to think that I might have to remove that metal bar (or a bit of it).

2mm isn't much. There must be a way of gaining that without anything too drastic.

Lump hammer on bar to move it slightly?

that's what i'm thinking, it only needs to be moved back a few mm, i'll have a go this weekend
