1.8 petrol "98"

Have had my landy nearly 9 months now. never had any trouble with it..... the last couple of weeks however, on first start-up each day, anyone standing behind has to endure a giant plume of blue smoke to choke on........

while temperature gauge tells me everythings well, water levels ok, oil levels ok, no water dripping from exhaust, petrol consumption ok, i am dumbfounded as to why its suddenly doing that..... my current driving is motorways - around 40-50 miles per trip. drives well no slugging...... anyone dealt with this before?

Valve steam oil seals possibly, leaking oil into each cylinder whilst stood, Not the biggest of jobs i would guess

Agree Valve stem oil seals, they harden over time and overnight stiffen up and shrink let oil though and on start up blue smoke, when the engine warms they expand and re-seal hence no smoke once running.

Most of these can be done by simply removing the engine rocker cover (Top bit of the engine as you look at it) to gain access to the valves.

Compression test on all cylinders first though. If this is fine go with the above.

£200 max.

Good tips Zippy;) , only the head has to come off for the valves to be removed, its a Sealey part that compresses the valve springs (the giant G-clamp type)
