I'm not one to use too many revs or put an engine under too much load, but can this sort of sym(pathetic) driving be bad for my TD5 with 84k miles under her belt?

No motorways over here, the revs never go above about 2500 and the max speed is about 60mph. I think I might need to start wearing heavier boots.

The wife tends to pootle about, with lots of short journeys. I take it for the occasional blast just to clear the tubes. Doesn't have to be too fast...just stay in 3rd gear

Thanks. I'll give it a good run on my way to work tomorrow. As it's never been driven enthusiastically since I've owned it, can I expect any smokey emissions?

Remember it's a diesel engine which is inherently lower revving than a petrol engine, even with a turbo.

You might blow some caked soot out the exhaust system but you shoudn't really see smoke after that unless you've got a problem with induction (blocked air filter, blocked cat, stuck turbo wastegate, mucky MAP sensor, stuck EGR) or the crank case breather is blocked/playing up - usually down to the DPF (black mushroom) on top of the turbo inlet hose.
