Only when moving and at lower speeds, say for example - turning into a parking space.

I do get some drag when pulling away on the tyres but thats pretty common. Pressures are fine too. Had this noise fer a while, it sounds like something winding own, a whirring, wooing noise - proressively slower as the car slows to a stop.

I have the same, to me it sounds as it comes from the middle of the car (vcu ?), when turning full lock (with the radio off so that I can hear it) to enter the driveway I can hear that whoo whoo sound also. But I think it got it from new, since not raising in noise nothing done/checked so far.

Aye, I darent mention VCU just in case it is...sounds like the same problem you describe...best I just keep ignoring it

if you suspect tyres,you could do a simple test, but needs a handheld tyre pressure gauge. Go to a supermarket with a petrol station, more importantly a working airline. Ramp the tyre pressures right up, somewhere in the region of 40psi or so, then take it (slowly) into the supermarket carpark. Do what you did to make the noise happen. If it changes, you know the culprit is tyres. If not, back to the drawing board, but nothing lost. Then let the tyres back down, checking with the handheld gauge, or go back over to the airline and do it that way.

Don't think it's a tyre problem as I had it from new and have changed tyres since (another brand, another thread, from GoodYear Wrangler to BF Goodrich Macadam now) and whoo whoo is still there, but it's very faint I must say, with the radio on one can't even hear it, only when paying special attention you notice it.

Aye, same ere...doesnt do it from parked ta moving, only when coming to a stop - a turning stop that is. Only hear it when radio is off or low.

If it is a VCU I wouldn't recommend ignoring it, that can put added strain on the rear diff or IRD (much more expensive!)Aye, I darent mention VCU just in case it is...sounds like the same problem you describe...best I just keep ignoring it

Just the whine of the gearbox and IRD, once described as 'weird noises coming from the transmission' in an LRO magazine article. Will dig out the article if anyone wants the low down.
Early models (possibly the ones with the 0.8% ratio difference pre 2001) were said to suffer the worst from the noise.
Yes it will do it in Mondo mode too.
I have a modified gearbox mount, scrapped the original hydramount bush and replaced with a composite one. The bush is a much more sturdier one than the original........... which is what I wanted cos your engine moves all over the show when cornering at speed.
The downside is slightly more transmission noise but its not intrusive into the cabin.
