I have a nut leftover

Hi all,

Never owned a landy before.

We've been to look at a couple of Td5 Disco's today, both the same price, same milage, same spec. Both are 51 reg with 60 - 66,000 miles. One metallic red, the other a dark metallic silver.

I noticed on the silver one that the button on the dash for raising the rear suspension for off road use was looking well used, ie; the grey plastic on the button was that worn that it was showing the yellow plastic below, also the door speaker mesh is rusting.

The red one looked a lot cleaner inside, off road rear suspension raisy button thingy isn't worn at all.
Only thing is that the step for getting into the back doesn't lift itself back up, and when you pull it up, it flops back down.

Would you say that heavy wear on the rear raise button is a sign of lots of off road usage. If so, would you say that the red one (much cleaner looking interior) would be the better buy?

Also, any tips on what sort of thing I should pay particular attention to would be greatly appreciated.

Stu.

Just got back from test driving, had a go in both, bought the red one. I just hope it prooves to be all I'm hoping for. I don't think I'll be too impressed if things start to get problematic after the first couple of months or so. I did notice a low resonating hum that could be felt through the steering wheel and floor, and seemed to increace in pitch with the engine rev's regardless of which gear it was in, (auto).

Fingers crossed.

Hi Stu, I bought my td5 about 3 weeks ago it was an approved dealer car its an 02 with 52000 miles, and I am pleased with it, watch out for water ingress into cab, mine has been back for that. They sorted the sunroof drain tubes and air con tubes either side of gearbox, but it took 3 days to sort it. mine has some strange noises, nothing sinister, I think its down to ace but its noticeable at low revs like a resonance, then clears on acceleration. Now aircon is playing up so its going back to dealer, just as well theres a 12month warranty. Nothing serious just annoying things, which isnt helped when a land rover technician puts a hole in the rear of passenger leather seat, yes they are sorting that out as well, not impressed with main dealers quality of work, but I still love the td5.

Had mine 3 weeks now 51reg 49,000miles also sorted the leaky sunroofs myself and aircon drain plugs, But they are great cars to drive.

Ten days 'till I collect my Disco', then shortly after I'll be causing chaos on the M6 with the shed (avondale rialto 640-6) in tow.

Woohoo!

Stu.
