decided to change the pcv yesterday i had it done at 80000 but im nearing 130000 now. the valve wasnt to bad however i stripped all the hoses an the cyclone and cleaned them they are in good condition but were near full of a gloopy mess. the small pipe under the cyclone is metal i attached a long hose and tried to blow it out but to no avail. can anyone tell me if this should be open or is there a valve below that lets it in to the bottom of the engine? i followed deasys ho to by the way the metal pipe in question is part no 6N664 which i got from deasys diagram

tried both no joy, believe it the return oil???

i would of thought it should be open to allow oil to drain back into the sump, maybe worth taking it off and trying to feed something through to clear any blockage

just spoke to a mechanic at guy salmon hes told me theres a valve and i would not open it with breath pressure. however im wondering if the cyclone was so gunked up will the metal pipe be also? the answer is take it off and clean it but doing that seems out of my reach any body done this before?

Here are a few pics of what you are up against, we had removed the transmission, flywheel and water manifold and found this merry lot while we were there.

The bracket bolt would most likely be the tricky part although you may be able to disconnect the banjo bolt from the sump and blow through the pipe from that end or flush through with some aerosol cleaner from the oil separator end with the sump bolt removed although some solvent cleaners will eat rubber and plastic.

I don't know of any valve apart from the PCV valve in the pipe.

I edited my post after reading your original post saying you had already changed out the valve and the pipes were ok.

If they haven't been changed already i would guess all the pcv valve hoses will be collapsed and rotten or blocked along with the PCV valve being biffed so if you are going for it then you could do the whole lot including the oil separator.

You may as well chuck in your cam cover seals while you are there just for good measure as they will most likely be leaking too.

ive looked and cant find any valve either they guy salmon mechanic giggled and said there's no way you will blow through there's a valve that opens under pressure???

When did you ask him,1st April ? I would undo the banjo and spray some carb cleaner into the pipe, leave it a while, then an air line.

im going to try that tomorrow although i have no air line im going to try a bit of wire fed from the cyclone end. can anyone tell me if the cyclone is an empty shell or it has something inside? the reason is it was a bloody night mare to do the jubilee clip back up when i had cleaned it

Apologies, you must have posted a reply as I was editing out mine as I replied and then went back and read your original post.
I am not sure how easy it is to get to the banjo bolt but i am thinking it's easier than removing the pipe altogether.
Don't forget there are two pipes joined into one returning to the sump that are probably blocked.

I don't think there is anything in it although you will do well to get a piece of wire out through the bend in the lower end. It's function is to swirl the crankcase gases to separate out the oil.

You would do better to try the plenty of carb cleaner and airline as already mentioned until it flows out but you will need to access both pipes, ie the one coming from the pcv valve as well.

I bought the attached ratchet that takes 1/4 " hex bits when i was planning on changing out my pcv valve but I chickened out, handy little tool though.

i had it changed before at 80000 and they replaced all but two of the torx bolts with 10mm head bolts so it wasnt to bad getting the pcv off and on my difficulty was getting the cyclone to hose jubille clip on and done up!!!

I can imagine, you could use this with a screwdriver bit or small 1/4" drive socket for your jubilee clip maybe, but as you say, I am always reluctant to undo something after it's been a pig to do up
