Looking for some advice off people in the know?

The range rover vogue tdv8 is a car I've always wanted aspired to own! I now have the means to get my hands on one...

here's the question. The one that is taking my fancy is a 2008 3.6 tdv8 vogue se all the bells and whistles.. 2 owners but the service history is missing.. can I check at a rr stealer off the registration what has been done If any?...and would anyone touch one with 144000 miles on the clock..

Have you viewed the car? Does it look like its done more than 144k.

Usually find people are trying to hide something when the history is 'missing'. Not sure about checking the history and the dealer, you would think so.

You can check the previous MOT's on the GOV website if that helps.
 
i would run away to be honest.

Super history and evidence that it has been well looked after mean a lot.
 
As above, history can be crucial on these complex and expensive beasts....only 6-ish years old and the service book is missing....???....hmmmmm......

Can get details from a main dealer aslong as the servicong was done on the main dealer network....

The TDV8 is an wesome powerplant, the 4.4 version is more sort after as it is slightly more reliable and oddles more power.....

They do eat turbos and alternators from what I have read....turbos is a body off job to replace I think on this machine! But I could be wrong.

Get a cast iron warranty and rember the Golden Rule.....

Never ever buy a Range Rover with a fault no matter how small, unless you are prepared for the potential time, money, frustration and annoyance it may cause.
 
Think dealers would give you a copy of the service history if you pay for the book but you would need to know what garage of course, you may be able to track it from a main dealer computer especially if it has had any recall work.

I know from experience that if the service history is bad or doubtful then stay away as these cars don't tolerate bad maintenance very well, ideally its wants to be main dealer history as well or an indy specialist at the least, Fred in his shed type service history is a big gamble
 
Cheers peeps...It looks spotless outside and inside no wearing to the trim..The last owner was a female motorway cruising for 4 years..😕 confused. Com what to do ?

Get the History verified by a main dealer, get a decent vehicle check done by RAC/AA et al, good warranty and check absolutely everything works....

144k miles in 6 years is well above the UK average so aslong as they have the proof it was all motorways, and it was indeed a lady owner.....could be worth it....but never ever max your budget on buying a Range Rover, keep a wedge (large) aside for potential repairs and bills....

Talk to your local Main Dealer and see if they can trace the history.

Surely the Previous Owner must have receipts for servicing and work done....a 6 year old car with no receipts...hmmmmm....

I bought a 1995/6 P38 last year and that came with a chewed up service book and a stack of bills for work and parts receipts....

I am surprised a careful lady owner who cruises motorways didn't keep any receipts or the service book!!

You will be parting with substantial cash on a dream car, make sure you are 100% happy with it....there are plenty out there, so don't settle on the first one, regardless of how 'good' it looks....if it doesn't stack up, walk away.

Never be in a hurry to by a Range Rover, cos it will cme to bite you hard in the arse otherwise.....listen to our 'bitter' voices of experience....for me the Range Rover is my dream car, but even I have had 7 of them.....and a couple have bitten me hard in the wallet soon after purchase, just cos I was rash and in a hurry to get another one that I didn't heed my own preaching.....the Golden Rule!
 
Yes there's a couple of things here that set the warning bells ringing..

High mileage for its age but no service history... only 6 years old, if it was a lady owner that had only done high motorway mileage you would thunk it would have had lots of history rather than lost history..

144k and spotless interior.. why would someone go to so much effort to keep it spotless but not have the service records ?

for me this doesn't stack up and i would walk. if you want to take a run at it, for gawds sake get an hpi check done before you even go to look at it.

from experience in trying to track down history, i've been told from main dealers that to verify records they need written consent from previous owners to release the information to a third party as those records are between the dealership and the owner at the time. IE the person that contracted them to perform the work. I suppose in the same way, would you be happy if someone released your records to a third party without your consent !

Woman don't understand how to maintain a vehicle & they just drive them regardless until they're forced to stop. She's probably never had anything done to it other than emergency stuff, & oil change once a year.
Probably put it into a garage because of a problem, been quoted thousands, & thought she'd sell it on quickly in the hope someone will just buy it.
This is my experience with woman owners, & the fact they cry each time you give them a price.

And that's why for me, it doesn't pass the sniff test.
 
I must admit that in the past, if I had been given a really poor trade in value, I have held onto things like the handbook and service history, and the fact that the dealer never asked for them showed that they were going to palm the car off on the trade or some unsuspecting so-in-so.

At the end of the day, whatever the reason(s) for the missing history, listen to these boys as they know their stuff. Maybe if I'd have done that I'd have a few more quid in the bank but I know deep down I'd have still bought my little money pit :lol:

I would walk away from that, sounds like it's been spived up to me.
