Help still needed please as Rave still elusive to me :( if other members are able to download it, so any then it must be me :eek: is it not available on disc ? any other guidance is most appreciated.

When you click download - are you seeing a bar saying "time remaining" etc
 
Ok so i've just seen your post #57

You should have the downloaded file somewhere on your computer

click on start and use the search bar at the bottom - type in rave01 and press enter

hopefully your computer will find the folder that the file is in for you (rave01 iso) then using winzip follow the instructions we've just posted to open it.

Right click the rave iso file and if you have winzip or 7zip - one of these will appear as options to open the file with

or click start then all programs and have a look for it

If you haven't got it then you can download it off the net - mine was free ;)
 
I've just saw this and by co-incidence downloaded one of the discs this morning.

After downloading and in the download folder, when I right clicked on the RAVE folder got this-



Clicked on mount as virtual drive, thereafter opened the Virtual drive, in this case F:, then right clicked on the RAVE exe file and created a shortcut to the desktop

Works a treat.
 
Somehow you have managed to associate .iso files with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Use the Open With option and select Windows Explorer.
 
Windows 7 doesn't do this by default.

Google for 'Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel' and download it from Microsoft (free!) and that will allow you to mount .iso files as virtual CD-ROM devices.

Copy the file with the .sys extension to c:\Windows\system32\drivers
Then run the VcdControl appliction.
Select install. This will ask where the driver is. You just moved it to c:\Windows\system32\drivers so go and find it there. Click Start and OK.
NOW you should be able to do the business of adding a pretend CD. Click Add Drive, pick a drive letter and then go and select the rave1_1.iso file that you downloaded.

Remember that the iso file you downloaded is meant to be burnt to a CD. This is a p1ss about because we are trying to subvert the system!!
 
I don't know what's been said on this thread - but it looks like someone's having trouble opening the Rave ISO.

I dopwnloaded and installed Virtual CloneDrive...

SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive

Once installed, you can then right click on the ISO file and click the 'Mount' option. It then becomes a drive (often F:) - you can open this in explorer and double click on RAVE.EXE (at least that's what it was called in my L Series Rave).

This is on Win7.

Edit : lol F: close brackets becomes F smiley face.
 
When you "mount" the downloaded rave disk .iso you should copy all the rave folders/files out of the "mount"ed drive, to yer hard drive. In future you don't need to mount the rave disk .iso, as you already have it on yer phooter, copied from before.
 
I gave up trying to download the Rave, as I picked up a virus from either the 7zip or winzip even maybe the 'Virtual CD-ROM which one I don't know ? but what I do know I spent over 2 hours trying to get rid of a( www. trovi. com ) I have deliberately not joined it together I case someone clicked on it by mistake.

Trovi is a search engine that displays lots of advertisements while you are searching through Trovi.com. ThatÂ’s why it is called a browser hijacker, adware or PUP.


I finally got the virus out of my computer with the help of this below, along with other virus and malware programs :eek:

I have an old XP pc with which I downloaded the 7zip and the Rave iso and that as worked a treat, but I very nearly messed up my best pc which is only 3 months old AMD FX(tm)6300 six-core processor 3500Mhz 3core(s)
6 logical processor 16gb Ram 2TB hard drive, and a solid-state disk and boy was I in a panic for a bit.

I think it must be sensitive :) because as I say the old XP soon got to grips with all the above info and help :clap2: all is good now :focus: I have rave :D

I have the Microsoft Security Essentials but that trovi com can come in a bundle from downloading other programs. I did a disc clean up after, also defragmented the c disc, than also a system restore

Our IT peeps at work have banned users from defragging SSD drives. They have also turned oft the auto weekly defrag which several set-up. We had a lot of failures until they realised. SSD's don't really need a defrag. Some will disagree.
 
You're right Hippo about SSDs not needing to be defragged - but getting a virus hasn't much to do with luck. There's suggestions on here to get hold of DLLs and copy them into system32 - that will bring bad luck!

There's no need to open the ISO and copy files off of it into a folder - that's just duplicating the space you're using. If you use software to mount the ISO as a drive then all the files are available and you just use them. If you're short on space or want to use it on multiple computers (without installing ISO software on each), then burn the ISO to a CD.

The difficult bit isn't getting the Rave stuff to run - its finding what you need in it once it is running :)
 
If you think it's hard to get RAVE going, I recommend you try to get VIDA/DICE working for Volvos. I'm just glad I'm an IT guy....

Never had any problems with 7zip and viruses. It's a propper program but needs to be downloaded from the correct place. There's probably fake sites.

The idea of extracting files to a folder will allow peeps to have an icon on the desktop which they click to use rave. Peeps don't want the hassel of mounting drives if they're not into computers. It also means they can use rave on other hardware. If space is an issue then delete the download .iso afterwards.
 
If you are going to download anything, always have a good anti virus protection.

When you have downloaded the file, zip,iso or whatever do not open it ! - find it ! (all programs or use the search bar at the bottom of start) right click on the file, look at the options and whichever anti virus you have will show up, click "scan with" and your anti virus will scan the file for anything nasty within....;)

LOL, I never have any issues with viruses and don't have any antivirus slugware slowing down my PC.
But then I have a real operating system, Ubuntu Linux (Other distributions are available), If you never tried it you should. Takes a bit of time to understand the differences (the biggest being everything is FREE) but well worth the effort.

SSD's need a specific version of Windows or they will die in no time. Something to do with the maximum number of writes to each part of the drive. Defragging is important if you want a fast Windows hard drive but will kill a SSD, and the only reason for having a SSD is speed. Catch 22
