I've got oil dripping from the N/S/F sphere has anyone come across this before is it just an oil seal and if so is it hard to replace?

Probably the seal, maybe the chrome is pitted and has shredded the seal ...

You need to look and find out ...

Replace the seal if it is knacked, replace the swivel if it too is knacked ...

Fill with one-shot grease and drink a beverage of your choice in celebration ...

Ha is it as bad a job as I'm fearing it to be?

A top-tip in my RR days was to put a squirt of grease into the swivel along with the oil, which I did once on one and it stopped the oil drip, if you can fill and drain your swivels ok but later swivels don't have that facility.
