12 months of faultless driving and it has come to an end. Rad split seam at the top, luckily I was at home when it went so that's a plus point.

My question is what is the best supplier for the rads with the baffle fitted. Normally use island and at 125 plus vat it seems reasonable and brand is Nissen. What have others used with no problems.

Mine is the diesel auto.

Mine went on my trip to the UK, luckily after I had arrived.
I bought the Nissens one from Island, seems fine even though it's half the thickness of the original.
I was a bit ****ed off as I had an all metal spare at home

It will come with the cooler in the bottom which you don't use. Not worth making 2 different RAD's.
Check for the baffle when it arrives, mine was fine.
Nissens stuff has a good reputation, made in Denmark I think it say's on the lable, not crappy Chinese stuff.

You are correct, but spares makers only seem to provide one version these days which covers both units.

Due to the stupid RR design, you need to remove the viscous fan to get the RAD out as one of the cowl brackets fouls it. As I don't use the cowl, I just cut the bracket. Viscous seems to be welded in place on mine. Just had another go at removing it as it's long been dead, a 5 foot bar on a good quality spanner and a locking bar on the pully and it still will not budge. Also tried the more brutal method of hammer and chisel, still no luck, going to cut it off.
If you cannot get the viscous off, you will also have to slacken and push in one of the oil coller inlets to get past the viscous and tighten it back up after the RAD is in place.

Have you tried a bit of heat on it? Or like you said you will have to cut it off.

As much as can be done without fecking the water pump.

I put one on in the Spring / Summer and it has worked a treat, together with (dare I admit it) a new Britpart thermostat! Once warm the temperature needle never seems to stray from 12 o'clock.

Got it off, threads rusted up, once loose it needed a spanner all the way, tight as hell.

It's the standard failure place, same as where mine went. Common problem, fitted new RAD, 300 miles on the autoroute on the way home, no problem.
I wonder if the extra stress imposed by air pressure on the cowl causes flexing at the mounting point.

Would doing away with the cowl reduce the chance of rad failure do you suppose?

New rad will be here tomorrow all the sales man kept banging on about is it is caused by pressurising, which I know it is not but I suppose they have to say that it's done 160k and never had a radiator as far as my documents go.
