So I was picking up some ATF at my local auto factors, for my LT77 gearbox, and the bloke behind the counter said I should mix in a bit of EP90 'for extra bite' !
Is he talking nonsense or sense? If sense how much do you mix in?

Guessing you mean EP90 gear oil?

The manufacturer specifies ATF, why does the parts bloke know better?

If you want to upgrade your gearbox oil, try MTF94.

If yu don't mind spending a few quid extra, try the MTF next time you change. I have been using it for years, and it does seem very protective of the gearbox.

off course that a MTF(manual transmission fluid) is better in a manual gearbox than a ATF which is designed for automatic, though i'll never understand why they recommend ATF for the LT77

they did for r380 too before mtf and a well serviced box run on atf lasts as long as any other in my experience, there are also two types of baulk rings in lt77s uncoated and coated both designed with atf in mind, r380 baulk rings are uncoated and have a poor dog tooth design ie not continuous around outer edge and so wear quicker

So a manual gearbox that is designed to run off automatic transmission fluid actually runs better with manual transmission fuel.....now the bloke at the auto factors didn't mention that !!

if you want the best for your gearbox bite the bullet and put this in it Difflock Evolution 1 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil - 1 litre , i use it in mine and couldn't believe first time that an oil can make such difference... the gearbox became like new and smooth as silk...for me worth every penny of it

As Difflock don't produce the oil they bottle why not go direct to the manufacture/blender and save some money.

How did you get to the conclusion that it's the same oil please... cos i'll buy that cheaper one off course then as long as it's deffinitely the same

Just a snippet of info from one of the forums I picked up a few years ago, and which has never been any use to me, so its authenticity I've never checked, unlike the engine oils I use some times but don't have manufacturing name on the bottle, ie. Castrol, Mobil or Texaco that LR use for MTF94.

I can't say I've seen much or Amsoil's products here in the UK as there's plenty of others to choose from.

If you don't mind spending the extra, why not try it, many people seem to have had good results with it, and it is not going to do any harm.
