Hi,

How does one go about attaching chequer plate to ones land rover? Do I have to drill holes in the wing / bonnet that match up with the pre-drilled chequer plate holes and then rivot the panel on? Or can it be bolted on? What tools will I need and what is the best way to go about it?

Thanks in advace for any help

I might not do it yet, but pretty please can you tell me what's involved? :)

Drilling and 4mm aluminium pop rivets is the easiest way.
If you're really keen, you could use M4 Stainless CSK screws and nylocs, but that's a hell of a lot of work and yer might not be able to get to the rear of some sections. Maybe use CSK self-tappers, but that's doubly naff and they might not hold very well on thin sections.
Alternatively you could stick them on with mastic, but then they're a bugger to get off.
You'll need a drill, 4mm bit and a rivet gun.

chequer plate is the devil's metal. remove all traces of it and wash yer landy in holy water .. if you hang about charlesy will be along with chapter and verse about the evils of chequerplate

How come none of you like chequer plate?

because it's what posers use to going posing wiff. bit like big fook orf wide tyres. ok fer some things but generally just useless.

chequerplate on yer series floor to stop yer feet sliding about ...ok
chequerplate on wing tops only if you have reason to be standing on them ...ok
anywhere else is purly fer the pose factor
and the only other time i can thionk off would be if yer tartin up an old landy back door and all you have the right size is chequerplate

i got chequerplate on me wing tops in order to cover 4 large holes and to stop me burning the paint wiv cups o tea

I love it Pos but I am dum bored silly
I like them howling moon roof tents
as well and if the missis catch me
spending more money on the landy
that's where I will be living

Thanks for the replies!

I will only do the wing tops if I'm going to do it, no need to do the bonnet. I may well be sitting on the wings, resting drinks on them, climbing up to reach the roof when I buy a rack etc.
