HI guys, had a quick search and can't find the answer..

1st time i've had an EAS fault... ( the battery was off a couple days while it had a new Rad fitted ).. then i get the EAS fault..

tried plugging in the cable to find a fault code....

the TX side runs ok.. but all i get back on the RX is 'PP'
and can't get the software to report anything...

what am i missing ? cable lovingly bought from you helpful chaps....

many thanks

You didn't get a green "Good Idle" button then?
Comms failure, I suppose you have read the instructions?
Ignition need to be on.
What USB adaptor are you using? did you load the correct driver before you plugged it in?

thanks for the reply as ever.. i was dashing out the house to catch a flight, and just wanted to try reset it all..

but to answer yr questions..

NO i didn't get the green 'good idle'
i have a different USA adaptor i can try when i get home next monday... so i'm guessing as you say a Comm error.. have the correct driver etc...
ignition was on to Possition 2..

TX showed the correct info.. 1 & ff scrolling, but the RX just reports 'PP'
i will try again on my return... but any thoughts are as ever welcome..

i've also printed off the EAS how-To guide to check through things too when i get home..

it just appeared out of know where, and am hoping it is due to the battery being off for a couple days while a new radiator was fitted, and it's just sulking rather than something having failed.. so if i can clear the error it might be ok...

managed to check the fuse and relay under the front seat, the while connector in the front left pass well had a little corrosion which i cleaned up and gave a squirt of contact cleaner to...

i got the error sunday after picking up the car the day before...
i drove it sunday, and to and from the train station monday, all ok ( apart from the Error)..
then this morning.. i have the max 35 mph warning....

argh....

If you found corrosion in the OBD connector, you need to take it out and look at the back, wires have been known to corrode off completely.
Low battery voltage can cause all manner of problems, doesn't usually affect the EAS though.

No sorry. Wasn't the OBD connector. Was a white multi pin behind the pass foot well. I read in another post it was one to check too .. But will bear in mind to dbl check the OBD too. Thanks

I did read yr posts about having to instal the driver first befor plugging in the seriel/USB adaptor. I'm not sure what make mine would be.
I will uninstall the driver when I get home Monday and try that way around and see if I get good coms. Can you recomend a driver to download ?
I'm presuming these adaptors use a generic chip set.

Whether it's FTDI or Prolific, the adaptor should have come with a driver CD. If not you can look on either of the sites for a list of drivers.

Yeah I have a feeling it's a prolific. But of course in my hurry to try sort it befor I left home I'd just stupidly plugged the adaptor in and let Windows do it's worst !
The cable I got from you ages ago, just this is the first time I've had any issues with the EAS. So will try this first and se if I can get good comms, cheers

Ah, Windows installs a generic, one size fits all driver that does not work most of the time:mad:
The Win driver seems to enable RS232 in Xon Xoff mode which is no good as the control line RTS is needed to establish comms.

Here's hoping that's my issue. And when I can clear the fault then everything works again.
I only have Monday at home then away again... Dam work always getting in the way...

hi guys, ok so after a frustrating 2 hrs with my Old windows Laptop.. i finally got the thing to work, and Good comms with the OBD port and my beloved P38..

so.. faults.. vehicle moved ( we can discount that ). and ( i think because i forgot to write it down in the excitement).. an over pressure fault ? F2 ?
anyhow, i cleared them.. ran the test again.. and nothing..
4 lights all reset, started the car.. went up to height, made it do all the hight changes, and no hesitation what so ever..
but when i stopped the computer link i got the 35mph warning back...
ran the software again - no faults showing.. the 4 solid lights go off... All looks good...
disconnect from the computer.. started the car, all looks ok... haven't had time to drive it other than to the top of the street and back, but no EAS warnings at all..

does this sound familiar ?
was this just a 'soft fault' maybe because of the battery being removed etc... or can i expect some component failure some time soon ? if so what ? or anything i can check / change.. ?

It's normal to get the slow 35mph messagew when shutting down the EAS software, it's used as a signal that comms has started/stopped. turn the ignition off then back on and the message will not be there.
Pressure signal constantly high is often a sign of a dodgy driver pack or connections in the EAS box..

evening, agh ok... so no stress with the (35mph ) message then..
driver pack and connectors...
is the driver pack inside the EAS box in the engine bay ?
i will take a look and clean the connectors when i get home next weekend then and see if i can find a cause...
anything i can do to the driver pack ?

cheers

You may need to nip up the connectors, yes the driver pack is in the EAS box on the side of the valve block.
I have a couple of second hand driver packs so a swap was not a problem, buying off Ebay may be a problem.
I may have fixed my dodgy one, I'll put it back on the car when I get back from holiday and report my findings.
